An educational simulator to understand, assess and improve the recyclability of your panels.
Welcome to ecodesign.solar, an interactive platform designed specifically for stakeholders in the photovoltaic panel industry. Developed by SOREN, this platform provides essential information on adopting eco-design principles for the recycling of photovoltaic panels. Thanks to an educational simulator, users can:
- Understand the composition of photovoltaic panels.
- Assess the recyclability of panels by analysing the materials and components used.
- Test your eco-design strategies by exploring different scenarios.
- Obtain a certificate of compliance with the Soren eco-modulation criteria.
AN ASSESSMENT METHOD BASED ON
OPERATIONAL KNOWLEDGE
OF THE RECYCLING PROCESSES
FOR END-OF-LIFE PANELS
This assessment method, created in collaboration with INES CEA, is based on real recycling processes and operational knowledge. By drawing on detailed data and practical knowledge from the recycling sector, it provides a comprehensive assessment framework that includes:
- Material composition analysis: assessing the various materials present in photovoltaic panels and their respective recyclability.
- Challenges and barriers: identifying the elements that block or cause problems in processing operations, such as hazardous substances, non-recyclable components and complex assembly structures.
- Eco-design development: discover how these assessments can inform the drafting of eco-design plans, thereby improving the recyclability of future photovoltaic panels right from the design phase.
- Regulations: incorporating national and European regulatory frameworks in order to anticipate the impact on the photovoltaic sector and on the environment.
In collaboration with:
This method ensures a thorough understanding of photovoltaic panel recycling, thereby helping to put effective eco-design strategies in place.
Eco-modulation and eco-design
To encourage eco-design initiatives, SOREN has introduced eco-modulations, a scheme that financially rewards panels meeting certain environmental criteria. Manufacturers can therefore receive a bonus when their products demonstrate better environmental performance.
With Ecodesign.Solar, manufacturers can assess how far their panels comply with the eco-modulation criteria, identify areas for improvement and submit an application for a certificate of compliance. Submitted applications are then reviewed by an independent certification body, guaranteeing an impartial and reliable assessment.
Once obtained, the certificate can be used to justify the panel’s eligibility for the eco-modulation scheme when declaring products placed on the market to SOREN.
Submit a certificate application in just a few steps
You can also search for and view the compliance status of a panel model that is already registered, without having to log in to the Ecodesign.Solar application.
